First Descent Bagged at Last

We carried/hauled/lowered the boats 500 meters vertically downwards into the Upper Tai-Gong canyon. It was a bit of a struggle.

The gradient of the run was 20 meters/km over a length of 5km. It started off as 'read and run' easy IV, then turned into class II/III after a few kilometers. Strange, where did all the gradient go? A lengthy class V, leading off round a blind bend between vertical canyon walls, that's where. It went, with a bit of 'it's an easy rapid tipped up a bit' thinking.

We carried on into the middle Tai-Gong - previously run on the trip but now with twice as much water. Greg bombed down it and we followed - 8km all at class IV+ with a couple of Vs for extra interest - World Class.
