Subscribing to the KayakTaiwan blog (and others)

Are you interested in KayakTaiwan? Do you have the time to check http://kayaktaiwan.blogspot.com/ every five minutes to see if we have written anything new?

Do you really want to visit a whole load of kayaking sites everyday to see if they have been updated?

Would you rather something just told you when updates had been made, gave you a summary of the new content and left it up to you to decide if you want to make a visit?

RSS feeds do this and it is very simple to take advantage of them.

Preparation

1. Sign up for a free account on Bloglines, http://www.bloglines.com. Bloglines allows you to subscribe to feeds from blogs and websites, and aggregates all new items into one place for viewing and management. When you get hooked on this, you may want to make Bloglines your homepage.

2. In Bloglines, select ‘My Feeds’, then ‘Easy Subscribe Bookmarklet’. Follow the instructions for installing it.

3. Go to http://kayaktaiwan.blogspot.com/ and any other sites or blogs with an RSS feed (look for a little yellow RSS button if you are using Internet Explorer). Playak and Xackers have RSS feeds.

4. Using the ‘Sub with Bloglines’ bookmarklet that you installed earlier, subscribe to the feeds that you want. You can group feeds by your interests, e.g. ‘Kayak’, for easier management

5. You can also search for other interesting kayak sites and blogs using the Bloglines or Google search tool

6. If happen on a good kayaking site with a feed, use the Blogline subscription bookmark

7. In Bloglines select ‘My Feeds’ and look at the latest items posted on the blogs that you are interested in. When a new item is detected it is put on top of the heap of news items.
