Conversation with Aron & Bear: First Few Days Planned (unless England make the World Cup final... )

I had a long conversation with Aron today via Skype. Aron and Bear are going to pick us up at the airport and find us somewhere to stay for the first night. The next day (unless England make it to the World Cup final) we're going to head out to the Taroko area where there is a free campsite that will make a good basecamp for a few days.

The general plan is to spend the first five days on rivers that are regularly (or, have been) run by Taipei locals so that we can get acclimatised to the style of river and Taiwan in general.

After the first five days we are going to head over to the 'first descents' we have identified on the topo maps that we bought.

We will have to run all the rivers in the second and last week as if they are first descents. Most of them probably are but there is no real way of knowing. We have heard rumours that people, a couple of South Africans and some Australians, have spent time kayaking in Taiwan. They did not bother to write anything down so nobody except them knows what they did!

We're going to write river notes on everything we run and publish them online so that the trip leaves a useful legacy.
